Pentecost - The Spirit Of God, the Holy Spirit, Before Pentecost

In the beginning God's Word and God's Spirit worked together during creation.

Genesis 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

There was only one man filled with the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament and he was filled for a very special purpose.

That man was Bezaleel. (Artisians for Building the Tabernacle)

Exodus 31 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, 5 in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.

Joshua was full of the Spirit of wisdom.

Deuteronomy 34:9 Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.

When the Spirit clothed Gideon, he became the acknowledged leader.

Judges 6:34 But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon; then he blew the trumpet, and the Abiezrites gathered behind him. 35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, who also gathered behind him. He also sent messengers to Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.

God's Spirit spoke by David in the Psalms.

2 Samuel 23:2 “The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue.

David knew that the whole secret of his success and blessedness was in the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 51:11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

From the New Testament, before Pentecost, we have the Trustworthy Prophetic Word.

2 Peter 1: 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

From the New Testament, before Pentecost, we have three members of the same family were filled with the Holy Spirit. Zacharias, Elizabeth and John, who was filled from the time of his birth.

Luke 1:15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.

Luke 1: 41 And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

Luke 1:67 Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

As you can see prior to Pentecost most believers operated and persevered only by faith without the benefit of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
