Pentecost - Baptism In The Holy Spirit, a New Testament experience

The fulfillment of the promise comes to us in three phases as:

  1. An immersion
  2. An infilling
  3. An outflow
In these three we have the complete New Testament experience of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

After death, burial and resurrection, Jesus, glorified at God’s right hand, received and poured out the Holy Spirit.  The result could be seen and heard.

Remember we have the promise of the Holy Spirit

John 7:39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Once glorified

Acts 2:32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

Christ first received from the Father and then passed to those waiting in the upper room. Subsequently it is passed to all true believers who seek not only regeneration but the Lord's promise of empowerment to go forth to the ends of the earth sharing the Gospel.

First, regeneration: the resurrected Christ, the inbreathed Spirit, received as life.

Then, baptism: the glorified Christ, the outpoured Spirit, received as Lord.

Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

When you accepted Christ and were born again He breathed into you the Holy Spirit resulting in regeneration.

When you come to Christ for His Baptism He pours out the Holy Spirit on you.

When the Holy Spirit has filled you to overflowing you release the outflow which is evidenced by speaking in Tongues/other unlearned languages that you do not know.

Tongues tend to unify as well as divide. They unify those who want what God has and divide them from all those who don't.
