When I was growing up in church I never heard anything about demons or deliverance from demons. It must have been one of those areas in life that was never mentioned.
Today a search of the news regarding these type events reveals a Uk mention that the Catholic's are recruiting exorcists, everything else is old news as far as I can tell from a quick search.
In today's news.

Activists say hundreds of people have been kept in chains here, sometimes starved and beaten, making the place a byword for cruelty and highlighting the stigma attached to mental illness in Morocco. Source
Belief in demons rising and the Catholics are preparing to counter with exorcist recruitment while the other mainline churches remain silent. This seems to be counter productive to me based on the Pope's invocation of Lucifer on January 11, 2014, (listen to video here). Will they cast out demons with demons?
Jesus was accused of doing just that during His ministry and this what He had to say about it.
Luke 11:14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. 15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. 16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. 17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. 18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. 19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. 20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
Jesus tells us the position the Pope has taken by invocation, in verse 17, will end in desolation.

Over one half (63 percent, to be exact) of young Americans 18-29 years old now believe in the notion that invisible, non-corporeal entities called "demons" can take partial or total control of human beings, revealed an October 2012 Public Policy Polling survey that also showed this belief isn't declining among the American population generally; it's growing. Today in America it seems the belief in demons is climbing and the churches are in drastic decline. It would appear the demons attending church in America are winning.
The good news for you who are true believers you have power over demons and don't need an exorcist to expel them! You can simply deal with them from your home prayer closet and send them fleeing.
As His disciples today He has given you power and authority over the enemy.
Luke 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
In 1992 I founded Rejoice Ministries of Juneau, Alaska and started a home church along with a monthly good news letter that I published. Rejoice was about sharing God's love with those who had tried church but for unknown reasons had been hurt and rejected by various christian establishments. God blessed our fellowship with His touch of physical and spiritual healing along with demonic deliverance for those who desired freedom from Satan's bondage.
I also had the privilege of working with Dr. James West of the Church of the Nazarene and his very active demonic deliverance ministry for a couple years before he moved and entered into full time missionary training.
My purpose today remains the same, sharing the Gospel and setting the captives free.
Before closing this post with Derek Prince's audio on 'How to Recognize and Expel Demons' I want to clear up some common misconceptions that many Christians seem to have.
- Christians cannot be demon possessed; possession indicates complete ownership and for the Christian Christ has ownership.
- Christians can be demonized, some refer to it as demonic oppression, but I prefer the term demonized. A Christian for example may have turned over his/her life to Christ but retains certain aspects of their personality founded in the world and those aspects may be demonized with a resident demon sharing space within the believer with the Holy Spirit. God does not control our individual freewill and leaves that to us. He desires that we would be His 100% and allows us time through life's walk to get there. An example would be a gossip demon being present in those who like to gossip about others.
- Demons occupy distinct specific areas of ones personality, not the whole body, they only influence that specific area.
- Demons are disembodied spirits walking about on earth seeking a host body to inhabit. They must have a body to express their desires through; examples may be an alcoholic demon, or a gluttony demon.
- Demons are persons with a voice, so when you are dealing with them one must remember you are dealing with a person.
- Demons, unclean spirits, and evil spirits are synonymous with all referring to the same person/entity in our modern Bible translations.
- Demons have two main purposes: 1) to keep the person from being saved through a knowledge of Christ and 2) If the person has found Christ and is saved then the demon works to make the person ineffective for Christ.
- Demons are not fallen angels, fallen angels have bodies of their own and do not die.
