The Rapture? Then the Tribulation? You Could be Surprised

The Rapture first followed by the Tribulation; does Scripture support this widely taught view?

Part one
  • The Rapture
  • The 7 year Tribulation
About Your church:

Does your church support this view that rapture comes first and then the tribulation?
  • Has your church preached the saving grace of the Gospel of Christ to you?
  • Have they shared the reality that all have sinned and fallen short?
  • That all must repent of their sin and ask forgiveness to be saved by the precious Blood of Christ.
  • Have they told you there is literal Heaven and Hell?
  • Have they taught you how to hear God's voice and abide in Him?
  • Have they shared The Revelation of Jesus Christ with you? It carries a special blessing from God for all those who read and those who hear this prophecy.
(Bold and underline is added for my emphasis)
Revelation 1:1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. 3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

You need this foundation and knowledge to survive what is coming, without it you will perish. My biggest fear for the church is that you are not ready and that is based on what I see around me.

The good news is our teacher will be The Word of God. James will only highlight and comment on those areas that stand out to him. I did this as a review of my own readiness to ensure I had it correct and straight from the source and not with a denominational interpretation.

As you read through this review please open your heart to hear the Voice of the Holy Spirit and clear your mind of preconceived or previous teachings of men. Your life hangs in the balance, it's that serious!

Our enemy Satan has had thousands of years to practice and refine his dark paths that lead to the pit. He knows his time is short and he has been busy placing his forces in strategic locations.

He is busy creating a one world religion that will encompass all denominations of the Christian church along with all other religions. Are you unknowingly part of this group? Is your church involved in working toward Christian unity and ending Luther's Reformation objection?

You will be part of this brotherly deception unless you verify all that your church is preaching and teaching you with God's Holy Word. If their teaching does not align in agreement with the Word of God, LEAVE and find a group that does.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

2 Corinthians 6:17 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”

Today we are going to verify our knowledge regarding common terms discussed within the Body of Christ to see how they align with God's Holy Word. All references will be from either the NKJV or the KJV of the Bible. I will also reference Strong's Exhaustive Concordance (SEC) for clarity.

Topics
  • The Rapture
  • The 7 year Tribulation
Some say we have a seven year tribulation period coming just ahead and it will be followed by the 1,000 year Millennial Kingdom. Many also believe the church will rapture out just before the seven years of tribulation begins, will they?

Let's examine the key points and then God's Word to see if they align with the Word.

  1. No one knows the day or hour, except the Father only
  2. He comes as a thief in the night
  3. Those who are ready will meet the Lord in the air
  4. Then the seven year tribulation begins

The Rapture

by Todd Strandberg

Is there anything wrong with this picture? (The artist did a great job, this is not a question about art)

These folks are not clothed in white, street clothing will not be allowed, and neither will bodies of flesh. Will Satan stage a false rapture? Could it be the first ticket out is headed to wrong place?

Those who are looking for the pre-tribulation rapture would probably respond this way; the rapture of the church is the trigger event for the beginning of the seven year tribulation period.

Are you waiting and secure in the rapture teaching and only meeting God part way? Do you feel confident that you'll be out of here before things get bad, if so, what if you're wrong?

Pride and overconfidence always come before a fall and eternity is a long time to ponder what if.

For those of you who have ears to hear and eyes to see please pray and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit before proceeding any further in this review / study. For me, during this study our Lord rearranged 40+ years of what I thought I knew over the past few weeks of intense study.

The heart of the pre-tribulation rapture is based primarily on the following Scriptures in 1 Thessalonians.

1 Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

From Strong's Exhaustive Concordance (SEC)
  1. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 'dead'   (SEC 3498) (a corpse) dead (lit. or fig.; also as a noun)
  2. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 'first'   (SEC 4412 - 4413) (4412-nuet. 3588 incl. fem) 4413 - firstly (in time, place, order, or importance):-- before, at the beginning, chiefly (at, at the) first (of all)
  3. Revelation 20:5-6  'first' (SEC 4413) - firstly (in time, place, order, or importance):-- before, at the beginning, chiefly (at, at the) first (of all)
Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

(NOTE: This is the first resurrection as it appears in Revelation 20:5, there is no other reference to the first resurrection occurring anywhere else in God's Word.

This being the case then 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 on which the rapture is based occurs here at the Second Coming of Christ and not seven years earlier as we have been taught.

Is the rapture teaching a deception planted by the enemy who intends to stage a false rapture? I don't know the answer but I had to ask the question. We'll all know soon enough by watching current events.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 New King James Version (NKJV)(Cross ref.included following the verse)

2 Thessalonians 2:1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, (Cross ref. 1 Thess. 4:15-17)

2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.
3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, (Cross ref. 1 Tim. 4:1)
4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons(Cross ref. Rev. 16:14)

Revelation 16:14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

My comments and summary

The rapture is taught as indicated in
1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 as referenced by those who hold to the pre-tribulation teaching. However what we don't hear in the church is Paul's followup in Thessalonians 2:1 which is (Cross ref. to 1 Thess. 4:15-17) Paul clarifies his teaching in 2 Thess. 2:1-4 and adds two pre-conditions to the rapture by direct cross reference which are:
  1. the falling away comes first followed by
  2. the man of sin is revealed
2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes firstand the man of sin is revealedthe son of perdition,

The rapture picture and my comment

Is Paul warning us about a false rapture and the announcement the current Pope is bound to make when their alien savior arrives? Look at verse 2, it is a clear warning. If in reality the rapture does not occur before tribulation then those who are looking for it then could easily be deceived with a false event.

Why else would Paul say this in verse 2?

2 Thessalonians 2:not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letteras if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.

(Ref.) 1 Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.
  1. Paul states we will not precede those who are asleep/dead, in fact he says by no means will we precede them.
  2. The first resurrection occurs at the second coming of Christ in Revelation 20:6. There is no other first resurrection referenced in the Bible. (See Revelation) Revelation 20:5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
  3. Additionally in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. (This can't be separated from the first resurrection, it is part of it and those who are alive and remain are also part of the first resurrection)
  4. In Revelation 20:1-3 the Lord states: Satan is bound in chains and sealed for 1,000 years. Then the first resurrection/rapture occurs followed by the Millennial Kingdom. (See Rev.) Revelation 20:1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
  5. 1 Thessalonians 5:2 the day of the Lord is when He comes like a thief in the night. The day of the Lord is associated with the Second coming and the destruction of evil; when they think peace and safety then sudden destruction comes.
The Day of the Lord is about the destruction of evil and the protection of those who are His. Some examples follow:

Destruction

Isaiah 13:6 Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand!
It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

Zephaniah 1:6 Those who have turned back from following the Lord,

And have not sought the Lord, nor inquired of Him.”
7 Be silent in the presence of the Lord God;
For the day of the Lord is at hand,
For the Lord has prepared a sacrifice;
He has invited His guests.
8 “And it shall be,
In the day of the Lord’s sacrifice,
That I will punish the princes and the king’s children,
And all such as are clothed with foreign apparel.

2 Peter 3:10 [ The Day of the Lord ] But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Matthew 24:36 [ No One Knows the Day or Hour ] “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

Mark 13:32 [ No One Knows the Day or Hour ] “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Protection

Zephaniah 2:3 Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the Lord’s anger.
The Seven year tribulation period

Does the Bible agree and verify a seven year tribulation? No. The Bible refers to time called 'The Beginning of Sorrows' and then Great Tribulation

The Bible does not reference a seven year tribulation period.

The Beginning of Sorrows

In fact in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 the disciples ask Jesus what will be the signs of the end of the age?

Jesus answers: These are the beginning of sorrows and then names them. (Note: Not called the first half of the tribulation)

Matthew 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. (Cross ref. Rev. 6:5,6 open the third seal)
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.

Mark 13:7 But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows9 “But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them.

Wow, who will be brought before rulers and kings for Jesus sake, for a testimony to them? Those who are His. If this happens to you what will you say? This would be the time you had better wait for the unction of the Holy Spirit and then allow Him to speak through you to rulers and kings. (See Luke 12: 11&12)

Luke 12:11 “Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. 12 For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

It seems to me all these things being mentioned in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 that I referenced above, by Jesus, are occurring now. Nations would refer to ethnic people against other ethnic peoples while kingdoms would be countries. Are we in the 'beginning of sorrows' time period?

Some might say people have been saying that for a long time, in fact centuries ago so why is now any different?

Many during the prior millennial did think they were experiencing these times but one thing was missing that is in place today and it started the final countdown.

Israel has been regathered into it's own land, in fact into God's land, and that began on May 14, 1948. In May that will be 66 years, almost a generation of 70 years. Why is this important? Look at what God says in Mark 13:30.

Mark 13:30 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.

Great Tribulation

Matthew 24:15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), (Cross ref. Dan. 9:27) (See Daniel 9:27 below)

16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.

Daniel 9:27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.”

Revelation 11:1 Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. 3 And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.

Mark 13:14 So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house. 16 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 17 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 18 And pray that your flight may not be in winter. 19 For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be. 20 And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.

Revelation 2:18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write,

‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

Revelation 7:14 And I said to him, “Sir, you know.”

So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the
great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them.

Revelation 12:6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

Revelation 13:5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.

My comment on the seven year tribulation period
  1. The Bible makes no reference to a seven year tribulation period
  2. The Bible does reference two periods referred to as 'the beginning/s of sorrows' and the 'Great Tribulation'
  3. The Great Tribulation will last one thousand two hundred and sixty days or forty two months as referenced in Scripture.
  4. Daniel 9:27 refers to where he/anti christ will confirm a covenant with many for 'one week' and in the middle of the week he will stop the sacrifice and offering. This is regarding the 70 week prophecy in Daniel and is where the idea of the seven year tribulation period came from.
  5. The beginning of sorrows is referenced only in Matthew and Mark. It has no clearly defined starting point, but all the events listed for this time period are ongoing now.
  6. Great Tribulation has a clearly defined starting point, it begins here: Mark 13:14 “So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
  7. When the abomination of desolation shows up so do the Two Witnesses and the 42 month time period begins along with all the horrors associated.
  8. The beginning of sorrows is referenced in Matthew and Mark while the forty two months is only referenced in Revelation.
My conclusion and concern
  • There is no pre-tribulation rapture because we are part of the first resurrection during the second coming of Christ. (See Revelation 20:1-6 referenced previously)
  • There is no a seven year tribulation period, (see next bullet point)
  • The Beginning of Sorrows precedes the Great Tribulation which lasts for forty two months or one thousand two hundred and sixty days
  • The church preaching the pre-tribulation rapture has been lied too and without due diligence on it's part has perpetuated it ongoing, and at what cost? To all that I have also shared the rapture view with over the years I ask your forgiveness for my error. I also forgive those who taught me this error. Today the Lord has edified me and I share that edification with you.
  • My concern is the lack of Spiritual preparation on the part of believers who have been looking toward the rapture while not thinking about what will be required to survive what is coming during Great Tribulation.
  • The Lord has given us all the tools, but have you taken the time to learn how to use them, how to hear His voice and follow His lead at every turn?
  • I think we have been in the beginning of sorrows period for quite some time, so how long do we have to get ready for The Great Tribulation? Not very long. The peace agreement that Israel will sign with many that the anti christ will confirm, referenced in Daniel 9:27, has a completion deadline of about the middle of next month, April 15, 2014. (This did not take place yet, 3-11-2015, maybe because of prayers of intercession for those who are still lost)
Preparation aids
You need these gifts to survive what's coming and time is short, very short.
